The article below is the first clinical trial comparing Brainspotting with Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing

Mechanisms of change for any form of psychological treatment are poorly understood. In broad terms, cognitive behavioural therapy and EMDR result in top down cortical regulation of a limbic brain region - the amygdala – the danger detecting hub of the brain that is hyper reactive in PTSD. In contrast to CBT and EMDR, Brainspotting, appears to preferentially target subcortical processing of traumatic memories and rather than cognitiveprocessing which characterizes EMDR and trauma-focused CBT. The two articles below offer intriguing neuroscience hypotheses.
